Marchin' All Over
Hello friends! Weβre knee deep in March and Iβm one out-of-town trip down, two to go!
First stop was last weekend for the four day magic of EMERALD CITY COMIC CON! I had a great time soaking up all the overcast/rainy goodness I could (the nonstop heat/sunshine in Texas is hard for a pale East Coaster like me) and only minded the 25 minute walk to/from my hotel when I was hauling my punishing comic luggage up those hills. Otherwise, walking in the rain and wind was nourishing to my gloomy little soul.
Speaking of my hotel, I was greeted with this threatening message in the elevator upon arrival:
And soon assumed that it was totally haunted:
Does the hallway look more or less menacing in the evening?
Itβs always fun to see the con floor before THE STORM:
Versus during
And this time I actually arrived early enough to set up my table straight from the airport, which even though a 5:00 a.m. airport call time sucks, has its benefits - like arriving with my heavy ass con luggage via car rather than my sweaty shoes.
Next up - the grocery store to make the perfect Haunted Hotel Girl Dinner:
The hot water in the shower was a very finicky bitch, but I went to Day 1/4 at the con in good spirits until I entered that goddamn elevator
As my friend Kristen the graphic designer noted - it would be FINE if they chose a different font or for fuckβs sake added a whimsical exclamation point! As is, itβs giving full Shining.
I was pretty convinced when I returned, the GOOD EVENING mat would foretell my last good evening forever. Luckily I lived long enough to enjoy a midnight vintage shop featuring THIS goldmine:
And to draw this commish for a fellow lovely patron:
I brought the totes I iron-transferred on myself and in spite of what my husband said (βYou canβt sell THOSEβ) Iβll have you know I sold 2 and people were DELIGHTED when I gave them away free with a $50 purchase. Ha!
Donβt you dare judge me!
I also got a kick out of how much love there was for The Laughing Storm himself, Lyonel Baratheon (iykyk)
In the end I met loads of lovely people, chatted with old friends and new, and recharged my Con Battery just in time for all the shows I get to attend this year. Now if youβll excuse me, Trip TWO happens tomorrow where I get to drive 13 1/2 hours to visit lovely friends for a birthday in Tucson. Iβll check in to bug yβall when I can, bye!
